Caltech Library signs Expression of Interest in SCOAP3

The Caltech Library signed an Expression of Interest in the Sponsoring Consortium of Open Access in Particle Physics Publishing, SCOAP3. It concluded that the High Energy Physics scientists are, indeed, taking a fresh look at the publishing cycle. Through SCOAP3, they have devised a model to put the scientific HEP community in greater control of its work. This is a refreshing and encouraging approach, and one that should serve research well.

Caltech is the 2nd North American library to sign an Expression of Interest in the consortium. The California Digital Library expressed interest earlier this week on behalf of the entire University of California system.

[Post Script: SCOAP3 issued a news release on Caltech's decision. Independently, Peter Suber found the Caltech Library's interest in SCOAP3 to be newsworthy.]
